Background
GWSS is America’s #1 offshore drilling fire protection company. We have expanded our business to the oil refineries and larger industrial and commercial businesses that require fire detection and suppression systems, gas detection, sprinkler systems and life saving services. We have enjoyed a business relationship with many large and well-known companies. Our strength, however, is our ability to provide our services to both the marine and commercial industry, as well as to smaller companies throughout the Gulf Coast Region in an expedient manner and at a reasonable cost. GWSS also provides our services to several international drilling companies and refineries located outside of the Continental United States.  We recently purchased a local sprinkler company and are licensed by the State of Louisiana as a Sprinkler Contractor. This has enabled us to take care of our customers' sprinkler system, fire alarm system, suppression system, fire doors, hydrants, emergency exist lights, portable fire extinguishers, fire hoses and any other fire-related service that required compliance with NFPA codes. By utilizing a single vendor our customers can significantly reduce the costs of administering multiple contracts, generating multiple purchase order, approving multiple invoices, writing multiple checks and calling several different vendors for the same or similar service.
Our concept of bundling all of these services together into an integrated fire compliance management system has also greatly reduce the risks involved when our customers assume the comprehensive task of complying with multiple code requirements. When these services are fragmented, it becomes much more difficult to assure that all fire equipment is maintained properly and in the required time frame.
Experience
 GWSS has one of the best fully equipped fire system Hydrotest and Recharge shops in South Louisiana. Our shop is Department of Transportation, (D.O.T) both high and low pressure certified, Det Norse Veritas, (D.N.V) certified and American Bureau of Shipping, (A.B.S) certified. We have in-house capabilities to provide CO2 recharges, FM200 recharges, Halon 1301 recharges, dry chemical, wet chemical and breathing air.
We are one of the most advanced fire and gas protection companies anywhere with these capabilities. GWSS has experience and adaptors to perform service on most any type of system cylinders and valve repair- foreign or domestic. Because of our state of the art recharge and hydrostatic testing shop we can provide our customers with third party inspections, repair work and hydrostatic testing. Unlike many of our competitors’, whom must subcontract this shop work, any repair work can be sent directly to our shop without involving any outside third party. The elimination of third party services allows us to provide our customers with better quality control and faster turn-around time. This also allows cost savings for our customers.
Gulf Wide Safety Systems, LLC personnel consists of a team of professionals who are licensed, trained and experienced in the field of fire and gas detection systems. Due to the technical nature of our business, change is constant in the technology and techniques aspects of our services. We at Gulf Wide Safety Systems made a concerted effort to keep abreast of the latest technology and techniques to improve our expertise in the fire and gas detection and life saving equipment fields. We perform inspections to satisfy National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, United States Coast Guard (USCG), American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL), Factory Mutual (FM), and OSHA. Our technicians are licensed (A, B, C, D, and E in Louisiana) by the State of Louisiana’s Office of the State Fire Marshal. All of our technicians must have each of these licenses before anyone can become a senior field technician.
We are knowledgeable of the electronic fire (addressable) and gas detection systems that are installed on the newbuilds, often referred to as part of the vessel management systems (VMS). Our field representives are computer-literate and experienced with the programs and software that are part of the newer systems. GWSS is also experienced with any type of the suppression systems and portables. GWSS has provided our start-up services to most of the newbuilds that have been built overseas in recent years, including the systems that are installed by others and needing to be certified by USCG,ABS, DNV and Lloyds.
Qualifications
Gulf Wide Safety Systems, LLC (GWSS) specializes in safety services that required the company (GWSS) and each employee to pass a comprehensive state and federal exams in order to provide our services. GWSS and each employee have the following licenses:
- Fire Alarm – Each employee must pass a state exam for installing, servicing and repair of each area of design and servicing of fire alarm fields.
- Fire Fighting Systems and Equipment – Each employee must pass a state exam for servicing CO2, FM200, Halon 1301, and Restaurants suppression systems and portable fire extinguishers, and fire fighting equipment.
- All Designers of fire alarm and fire fighting systems are required to pass a National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) approved exam. This NICET exam has four levels. In addition to NICET certified technicians, GWSS also has designers that are professional degreed engineers, both mechanical and electrical.
- Sprinkler Systems – GWSS is an approved and state licensed sprinkler contractor. GWSS fabricates, installs and services (including inspections) of all types of sprinkler systems.
- Department of Transportation (D.O.T) Hydrotest facility approval – Our hydrotest services require a D.O.T. Federal License and each employee that operates the Hydrotest equipment must be licensed and trained. Exact records and documentation must be maintained at all times for each item (cylinder) hydrotested. These records are subject to review at anytime by the Department of Transportation (D.O.T).
